Creativity and Children:
Creativity is an innate ability of human beings to create ideas in our imagination and convert it into something tangible and/or useful in our day-to-day activities. It is the primary source of path-breaking innovations when coupled with applied knowledge as adults. Children are more creative than adults. If taken the right measures to identify, harness and enhance their creativity, it helps them reach great heights in their adulthood.
How to inculcate the creativity factor in my child?
Let me rectify the above statement. Every human species has the ability to create in them. It is not something that has been acquired. Although this innate creativity must be identified and harnessed for better prospects for the children, there are few activities that help anchor the creativity in your child.
Why creativity is important?
According to science experts, creativity can be of 2 types viz the ideas that arise from the old ideas, like when the children observe a statue or tree and apply the idea on the activity they are indulging in. The second one is the creativity that develops because of curiosity and exporting different art mediums, materials, and techniques.
Travel with your children for short trips and help them learn about the socio-cultural aspect of the place, the art specialities of the place, history or the science behind the place. Travelling helps them explore new experiences with new people. They also learn to communicate with the people and inculcate social skills. Try to provide more experiences that involve all their five senses or at least a combination of two or more senses. These experiences help the children evolve into a more understanding, empathetic, and knowledgeable person. Their travel experiences account for the memories, and they can draw ideas from their experience. Travelling helps them explore different art forms, and the other information assists them in their future.
Fun activities for Kids:
Creative art activities for children will help them enjoy the activity and also create something memorable. Example of common art and craft activities are origami, vegetable print painting, t-shirt painting, straw painting, fingerprint painting, jewellery making, play-dough etc. Many kids’ schools in Bangalore include gardening and sand play in their curriculum.
Simple Origami
Step 1- Take a square shaped origami coloured paper or square white chart.
Step 2- Fold the corners together across to make a triangle.
Step 3- Now fold the triangle into half along the centre. The fold goes from left to right and unfold
Step 4- Now, fold the left and right triangle edges near the centre.
Step 5- Turn over the origami paper and on the flat surface draw a face of a cat or animal.
Vegetable painting:
Step 1- Take any textured vegetable like ladyfinger, potato, onion, or cucumber and cut them at the quarter of their length horizontally.
Step 2- Take any paint and dip the cut vegetable (use the vegetable as stamp) and ensure the paint is well absorbed.
Step 3- Now use the vegetable and imprint on t-shirts or paper to create exciting designs.
